2017 was the best Mizmorim Festival as yet! Great concerts in four interesting venues all around Basel, with outstanding performers.

Different Traditions
Throughout the festival, themed GO EAST, different aspects and cultures of the eastern european classical music tradition werde celebrated, focusing on the composers György Kurtág and György Ligeti. The different traditions were also represented by pieces of Erwin Schulhoff, Pavel Haas, Kryštof Mařatka, János Tamás, Felix Mendelssohn, Bela Bartok and the composer in residence – Matan Porat.
According to the artistic director Michal Lewkowicz, the goal of the festival was to present the different traditions, variety and cultural identities, which are being explored and presented by this music.
Each concert was designed to last fifty minutes, giving the audience the opportunity to decide which program would suit best. Throughout the festival a mix of well known pieces and works was presented which, unfortunately, are not being played very often but yet have a huge significance such as Kurtág’s Kafka-Fragmente, Tamás’s Postskriptum, and others.
The Mizmorim Festival celebrated its third edition with the two fabulous string quartets – Doric String Quartet and the Szymanowski Quartet, pianists Noam Greenberg and Benedek Horváth, oboist Nicholas Daniel, violinist Ilya Gringolts, and Marcelo Nisinman – bandoneon, Winfried Holzenkamp – double bass, the actors Rachel Braunschweig and Markus Mathis, and many more ….
